About CMS

What is a Content Management System (CMS) and how can I use it?

Traditionally, most small websites were built using static pages whose code was difficult to edit unless you were trained in specialist software. This often meant that keeping a site up to date was costly, and often a few steps behind the business, frequently resulting in sites not being updated at all.

To solve this design and maintenance problem, Content Management Systems (CMS) were developed. A CMS uses a database to store, retrieve, and edit the content of your website. Most of the content that makes up your site is stored in this database, and pages are uniquely generated each time a browser makes a request for content from the database. The CMS database allows for a wide variety of features to be easily integrated into the website, depending on the owners requirements and the nature of the site.

Simple & user Friendly CMS Back Office

The real power of CMS can be experienced once the structure and basic design of the site are in place. The owner of the site can easily edit content, add components, and manage a variety of features all through a user friendly interface.

Fully content managed sites

Occasionally Web-Duka receives a request for a fully content managed website.

Web-Duka are able to provide such a website, however our experience has shown that these websites can lack planning and structure, leading to a disorganised inconsistent website which has usability problems for visitors, and becomes difficult to update and maintain.

Our CMS sites are designed to allow the website owner to update the key areas of the site, but leave the rest of the development to us.

Some example areas of the website that can be changed through the CMS are...

Articles
Photo galleries
Website links
Contact details
Newsletters
Blogs
Price lists

...and, depending on the scope of the site, many more areas including products, reservation systems, & billing systems to name a few.
